Dishwashers - Refrigerators - Ovens and Stoves - Dryers - Washing Machine 1 - Washing Machine 2 - Gas Appliances
Q. Can anyone advise how to correct a methane gas smell coming from my washing machine when the machine is filling with water?A. Is your washer a top or front loader? A cup of bleach is fine, but may not get to all parts of the drum. If this is a front loader, you probably need to clean the door seal it by hand. We use a mild bathroom cleaner that can be sprayed on. If this is a top loader, you may need to remove the top (or whole case on some machines) and clean the top of the splashguard around the tub.
Q. I have an Admiral Design Series Washer that won't agitate. It spins fine but had a thumping noise during agitation. Any help is appreciated.A. There are usually some plastic cogs called "dogs" in the agitator. You will have to pull it to get to them. Take the model number to a local appliance parts shop and get some new dogs first.
Q. My wife notified me that there was a leak from under our washer, but she only said it did it a few times. Well it's happening more frequently and with greater amounts of water. I originally thought it was coming from the washer, but I found where the water is coming from. Where the drain hose leads out of the washer and in to the outlet at the wall is where I observed water coming out. The drain water is backing up and coming out the drain. What is causing this and how can I fix it quickly before it ruins my floor and wall?
A. Your drain standpipe is plugged. Try a snake or call a plumber.
Q. We have a Whirlpool LXR6232EQ0 (direct drive) Washer about 3.5 years old. All of a sudden, it won't spin or agitate. It does make a strange noise when in the spin mode.
A. Sounds like you have a broken coupler. Tip the washer back and you will see it between the motor and gear case.
Q. My washer washes great but it smells like burning rubber when the spin cycle starts. I replaced the drum belt and then it tripped the motor overload. I figure it must be something binding the drum. Is there anything specific to look for?
A. You could have something stuck under the clothesbasket, the brake might not be releasing, or the center bearing might be stuck and not allowing the tub to spin free. The belt is meant to slip until the water is gone, then slowly start to spin the load up, so the pulleys have to be shiny clean and dry.
