The New Kitchen Centerpiece Planning a kitchen remodel this winterl? If so you're in good company. According to the national trade publication "Kitchen & Bath Business," more than 6 million kitchens will be renovated this year.

While some people will simply reface their cabinets and update the countertops and accessories, others will gut the room and start from scratch. Regardless of how extensive your project will be, a good place to start is by coming up with a plan. First, decide what kind of look you want to achieve - modern or traditional. Then pick out the cabinets, knobs and door handles, countertops and sink.

The sink might not be the first thing that comes to mind when it's time for a kitchen remodel. Most people think they need to be more concerned about the countertops and cabinets. But ask any interior decorator and they'll tell you - because the sink gets more use than anything else in your kitchen, you should treat it as your centerpiece.

Want a look that will really make the sink stand out? Forget about stainless steel, cast iron and porcelain - go for something bold and unexpected. Put in one of Bates & Bates' Z Series metal sinks. They are crafted from non-ferrous metals (bronze, stainless steel, brass and copper) that have been combined with high tech polymer binders to create a material that is beautiful, durable and easy to maintain.

"Our Z Metal sinks give you the look and feel of metal without all the headaches," says Steven Bates, president of Bates & Bates. "Unlike pure metal, they can take a lot of wear and tear. They are also resistant to spotting and discoloration, inhibit the growth of bacteria and mildew, are non-porous and easy to clean. All you need to do to restore them to their original color is clean the surface with Bar Keeper's Friend, using just a sponge and water."

Z Series metal sinks are available in double basin and round-shaped styles for the kitchen, and oval for the bath. You can find them at decorative plumbing and hardware showrooms nationwide.  Log on to www.batesandbates.com for access to an online catalog and store locator.
