Take a Gamble on Las Vegas If ever there was a place that can't be duplicated, it would have to be Las Vegas. The city that never sleeps - aka "Sin City" - continues to hold a special allure for travelers from around the world.

They come for the nightlife.  They come for the gambling.  They come for conventions.  They come to get married.  They come to see Elvis.  They come for extravagant shows and entertainment.  Mostly, they continue to come to Vegas in droves.  And Vegas responds to this steady stream of visitors by continuing to build and by continuing to get bigger, better and bolder than ever before.

As the showiest place on Earth, Las Vegas is all about glitz, glamour and size. In the battle to be noticed, it seems everyone wants to be the biggest, the gaudiest and the best. The result is a Las Vegas Strip featuring some of the biggest and most amazing resorts in the world -- mega resorts that have become destinations all their own.

A walk down the Strip is an adventure like no other. Exploding volcanoes, pirate ships with live pirates doing battle, a giant Egyptian Sphinx, a replica of the New York City skyline, a 50-story replica of the Eiffel Tower and massive fountains are just a few of the visual highlights.  And that's just on the outside.

Additional treasures await those who venture inside these massive, eclectic structures.  You'll find aquariums, the tomb and museum of King Tut, roller coasters, circus high wire acts, royal white tigers, a dolphin habitat, IMAX theaters and huge shopping centers.

Today's mega resorts are nothing less than gaudy and grand, not to mention giant.  The Mirage opened in 1989 with 3,049 rooms.  Treasure Island offers 2,900 rooms, the Excalibur is a 4,000-room colossus and the king of them all is the MGM Grand - the largest resort hotel in the world.  Built in 1993 at a cost of $1 billion, the 112-acre MGM Grand includes over 5,000 rooms, a 171,500-square-foot casino, 12 restaurants, a 1,700-seat showroom, a 630-seat production theater, three swimming pools, five tennis courts, a child care center and a 215,000-square-foot, 15,200-seat events arena.

One of the latest mega-resort complexes on the horizon is Planet Hollywood Towers by Westgate.  Construction is underway on this sparkling new addition to the Las Vegas scene.

Planet Hollywood Towers by Westgate will be a 50-story, 1,200-unit complex situated adjacent to the existing Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino (formerly the Aladdin) in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Outside amenities include a 40,000 square-foot elevated outdoor recreational pool area on the second level and an exclusive 46th floor penthouse pool offering exceptional views of the Las Vegas surroundings.
